Dialogue of Change
Kim Louise
Rentschler, Manheim Township
We must not lose
ourselves to find each other. We must not vacate our past to own our
future. We must not lower our voices to raise our hopes, and we must
not close our minds to open our hearts.
For, it is our
individuality that makes us unique, our diversity that gives us
strength and our differences that make us whole.
As our nation
embraces a dialogue of change, we must harness this individuality. We
cannot allow our national discourse to retreat into the dynamics of
yesterday, jeopardized by the politics of fear, clouded by the specter
of partisanship. For there is nothing bold about repeating history,
there is no audacity in inertia, and there is no progress in rancor.

McClellan Blows the Whistle
by
Congressman Robert Wexler
Last night,
significant news broke that directly impacts our push for Impeachment
Hearings and a possible Inherent Contempt charge for Bush
Administration officials such as Karl Rove.
Former White House
Press Secretary Scott McClellan has revealed in his upcoming book that
Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Vice President Cheney lied about their
role in revealing the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson – actions
easily amounting to obstruction of justice.
McClellan also
admitted that there was a coordinated effort within the Bush
Administration to use propaganda to pump up the case for the Iraq war
and hide the projected costs of the war from the public.
Scott McClellan must
be called to testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee
to tell Congress and the American people everything he knows about
this massive effort by the White House to deceive this nation into
war. Read more...

The Philosophy of
Reason
by
Keith Smith, Ephrata, PA
If hindsight is
better than foresight, then it stands to reason that we should have
elected Al Gore in 2000. But no, it didn’t matter to people that we
had a balanced budget, or the fact that we had a surplus. The
American people were angry, because President Bill Clinton messed
around and got caught. Oh yeah, then he lied about it. But I have to
ask: When Bill Clinton made his mistake, were over four thousand
American soldiers killed in a foreign land? Did Bill Clinton make a
habit of lying to the American people about matters of national
importance or national security? What’s up with that? How many
people in this nation ever gave Al Gore’s stand on global warming some
serious consideration before they voted in November of 2000? I’m sure
we could have swayed him; because Al Gore has a heart for people, at
least that’s what hindsight shows me, because of his important stand
on the issue now.
Republicans make fun
of Gore, but no one in the Bush administration will be winning a Nobel
Prize for peace any time soon. I mean seriously, what’s up with
that? George W. Bush could not have predicted 9-11, but he surrounded
himself with people who saw a way to make money through the war on
terrorism. He could have come up with a stronger, more consistent
plan, but the best he could do was this, a broken America. He himself
became a terror to the people who elected him, and to those who
didn’t, and now we are weakened, a shadow of what we once were.

Maybe Pa. is
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Mississippi in Between
From
the Borys Blog
In 2004, then-state
House Speaker John Perzel bubbled over how his Republican Party had
just expanded its majority in the House to almost 20 votes.
If this keeps up, he
said, there might not be any Democrats left in the House. Then, Mr.
Perzel and other legislative leaders -- from both sides -- raised
their salaries 16 to 34 percent.
Voter raise rage
propelled Democrats to the majority, which they hope to expand later
this year. After the outcome of a special congressional election in
Mississippi last night, Democrats might want to borrow Mr. Perzel's
line.

Gas Tax Nonsense and
Fundamental Energy Industry Change
by Stephen Crockett, co-host of
Democratic Talk Radio
The idea being
promoted by both John McCain and Hillary Clinton of canceling the
federal gasoline tax for the summer is a terrible idea. It fails to
address the real issue of runaway fuel prices. It has negative
consequences for the safety of our roads and bridges. It is
essentially a campaign stunt and distraction. The oil profiteers have
already gobbled up any benefit consumers might gain from the cut far
in advance of the proposed summer suspension.
Runaway fuel prices
are largely the result of market manipulation by speculators and oil
companies combined with a “nod and wink” approach to government
regulation and law enforcement from the Bush Administration. We need
serious government intervention instead of cosmetic window dressing.
